Close to 1 in 3 Canadian women suffer from urinary incontinence – otherwise known as leaking. But only 1 in 12 women will tell their doctors or health care professionals about it.
Leaking is NOT the result of having children or getting older (although it is common in postpartum and older women) – leaking represents a dysfunction of the pelvic floor and/or the systems of the bladder.
The good news?! – There are MANY ways to help treat leaking and PREVENT these symptoms from happening in the first place.
For example: Pelvic floor muscle training has been shown to be the BEST 1st line treatment for stress and mixed urinary incontinence in women. (Level 1, grade A evidence … aka damn good evidence).
The Pelvic Floor is part of a functional system – learning how the whole system works and how to control it helps to restore the pelvic floor and is an essential step in improving symptoms of incontinence.
Maternix courses educate clients on the pelvic floor, the core, pressure management, strength, breath and how to prevent or improve & eliminate symptoms … such as leaking! All of these courses are taught by me, Tara, on orthopaedic and pelvic health Physiotherapist. They are currently taught online at an affordable price! Plus, once you sign up for a Maternix course, you will gain access to the members-only page where you will have access to more information, resources and exercise videos to watch whenever you want.
Check out the other blog post titled “Tips for a happy bladder” for more information on how you can keep your bladder happy and functioning well!
