The following is a list of things to keep in mind if you are postpartum.
*** The information and advice below is a combination of evidence-based information and what I have learned through my clinical experiences.
1.) There is both not enough info AND too much info out there for pregnant and postpartum people:
- While it may seem that Instagram is filled with people confidently teaching you the “top 3 exercises to “fix” mum-bum” the reality is that there is no 1-size-fits-all program that will make everyone’s goals come true.
- There is still a huge gap in support and care for women in health care. The protocol for c-section rehab is still as minimal as it was 20 years ago… heck 50 years ago! The only difference now is women are sent home from hospital sooner than in the past… sometimes less than 2 hours after giving birth.
- The good news?! There are SO many amazing service providers out there who can help people with hundreds of issues… (it can be hard to find them if you don’t know where to look.)
Maternix courses help you to understand how your body works and how you can cater your own workouts to suit your needs.
If you sign up for one of the Maternix courses you will also gain access to a Maternix Membership. This membership gives you access to resource pages that list various care providers should you need them! The list is constantly growing!
2.) Taking the time to invest in your recovery postpartum WILL have a positive impact on you long term. Whether that’s with the Maternix Postpartum recovery course or not. How?
- Reconnecting to your body and rebuilding a solid base of strength will help ensure that you feel confident and physically comfortable when you get back to activities you love.
- Taking the time to reconnect and heal helps you to feel like YOU again!
- Being able to recognize signs and symptoms of a dysfunctional pelvic floor can prompt you to get help sooner rather than later. Sometimes there is an easy fix for an issue – a few tips and tricks from a physio or therapist who can effectively diagnose the issue could be all you need. When these small issues get ignored they can be harder to fix in the long run so addressing them early is hugely beneficial.
- Maternix courses help teach you about your anatomy, common stresses and issues that you can run into during pregnancy & the postpartum period, how to spot them and when to seek additional support to address them.
3.) Giving birth is ALWAYS a big deal. It’s a magical physical and emotional feat! I hope that all mothers feel like they deserve the time and the space to heal properly from it – both physically or mentally.
The lack of support and education mothers get during the postpartum time period to help them recovery is really what motivated me to start Maternix – so that is what I (Tara) am here for – To help you RECOVERY BETTER from pregnancy, labour and delivery.
If you’ve worked with someone who has really helped you during your pregnancy or postpartum period, I’d love to know who they were and where they work so I can potentially add them to our resource page! Hoping to create an holistic resource centre so people can access the support they need.
